Our School
Why visit Sling? Along with having convenient locations at KTOA, KLGB, and KSEE, our fleet of over 50 brand new, fuel-injected airplanes with all glass panels and autopilots allows you to conduct two checkrides a day with convenience! Unlike larger flight schools, Sling Pilot Academy maintains an open community between our students and instructors. Our unique friendly atmosphere and highly trained pilots are just some of the many reasons DPEs travel from all over the country to stay with us throughout the year! Our Los Angeles locations (KTOA and KLGB) are less than five minutes away from a large practice area surrounded by numerous airports with instrument approach procedures!

Our Locations
With locations around Los Angeles and San Diego, Sling Pilot Academy has some of the best year-round flying weather! Many of our examiners treat checkrides at Sling as a vacation rather than a work trip. During your stay, we’d love for you to take some days off to explore the area with friends or partner/spouse.
KTOA – Our headquarters and busiest location in Torrance sits at the core of the South Bay. Here you get to enjoy all the amenities you could ask for, and not deal with the traffic of downtown Los Angeles.
KLGB – Our newest location in Long Beach operates just south of the main terminal. We share a facility with a large- scale startup company developing blended wing aircraft!
KSEE – Our El Cajon location sits 10mi East of downtown San Diego. This beautiful airport houses Sling Pilot Academy’s international hub with a rapidly-growing group of dedicated students and instructors.
Our Aircraft
At Sling Pilot Academy, we operate the unique and versatile Sling 2 LSA. Our Torrance (KTOA) location acts as our school’s headquarters and the North American distributor for Sling Aircraft. Our on-site full-service maintenance hangar allows our aircraft to continuously run with little to no discrepancies. All academy-operated aircraft were built after 2014, with the great majority of them being built after 2021. Our fleet of over 50 airplanes have standardized all- glass panels with touch screen avionics (Garmin G3X Touch with integrated autopilot, GTN650, G5). Saving the best for last, we aren’t fans of flying used, overhauled engines. That’s why we buy brand new Rotax engines whenever one of our airplanes hits TBO. We’d love for you to come fly one of our planes to see what the new pinnacle of flight training aircraft looks and feels like!
Scheduling
Sling Pilot Academy offers flexible checkride scheduling that meets your needs.
Prior to your stay, our Operations Manager will reach out to begin building your schedule. She will update you on any changes in applicants and handle adjusting your schedule in case of unpredicted weather or rescheduling an applicant in case of a disapproval.
No matter when you come visit, we will have a list of applicants ready to take a checkride with you! At all locations, we can schedule you up to three applicants a day! (three daily applicants only available at our Torrance location)
With the rising need for examiners, our students are ready to pay a premium for your service! Our regular examiners charge between $900-$1500 per checkride!
Student Preparation
Sling Pilot Academy holds one of the best (if not the best) safety records in the US. Our safety record and strong training program has allowed us to hold a 95% checkride pass rate for almost all ratings (90% on CFI Initial).
Prior to having a checkride scheduled, each one of our students have their logbook fully screened and reviewed by one of our Lead Instructors to ensure all endorsements and hour requirements are met and logged properly.
If you find a disqualifying error with a student’s logbook or paper, we’ll cover the checkride fee! (this only covers Private and Instrument checkrides; you may choose to charge an advanced student if a checkride is cancelled for incorrect paperwork or logging)
Our Training Program
Sling Pilot Academy has introduced a modern and more expansive training program than any other flight school. Our Chief Instructor group is made up of experienced GA pilots and graduates who’ve moved on to Part 135 and 121 operations.
This wide range of experience has allowed us to focus on providing our students with the skills required to not only safely operate GA aircraft in some of the busiest airspace around, but to prepare them for training in a crew environment at their next job!
Our training recognizes that all students, no matter what phase of training they’re in, are working towards becoming not only CFIs, but Captains one day in the future. This philosophy sets Sling Pilot Academy apart from other schools.
